ETIAS Countries: Which European Destinations Can You Visit?

The ETIAS authorization gives you access to 30 European countries with a single travel permit. It’s expected to be launched in late 2026.

If you’re traveling to Europe without a visa, this authorization will be required to enter the Schengen Area. Find out which countries are included and how to apply online with HandleVisa.

4 non-EU countries in the Schengen Area (EFTA)

  • Iceland

One EU country in the process of joining Schengen

  • Cyprus

With an approved ETIAS, you can travel freely across all these destinations without additional permits.

Important: The ETIAS system has not been launched. It’s due to begin in late 2026. Once rolled out, you’ll need an approved ETIAS to travel to the above countries visa-free.

European Countries NOT Included in ETIAS

The ETIAS authorization does not apply to all European countries. Some destinations require separate travel documents.

  • United Kingdom

The United Kingdom is not part of the Schengen Area. This means ETIAS cannot be used to travel to London or any other UK destination. Travelers must follow the UK’s own entry requirements. You may need a visa for the United Kingdom, or an ETA (for visa-exempt visitors).

  • Republic of Ireland

Ireland is part of the European Union but does not belong to the Schengen Area. It has its own border and visa policies, so ETIAS is not valid for travel to Ireland. To visit Ireland, check the entry requirements for your nationality.

One Application for Multiple Destinations: Apply for ETIAS With Us

One of the main advantages of ETIAS is that you only need to apply once. Once approved, your ETIAS is valid 3 years, or until your passport expires — whichever comes first.

With a single authorization, you can travel across all 30 participating countries without requesting separate permits. It allows visits of up to 90 days per 180 day period in the region.

FAQs About ETIAS Countries

Do I need a separate ETIAS for each country I visit?

Toggle faqs

No. One approved ETIAS allows you to travel freely across all 30 participating countries. The authorization is the same for all nations in the scheme, so you only need to apply with one form.

Can I enter and leave the ETIAS area multiple times?

Toggle faqs

Yes. ETIAS allows multiple entries, as long as your total stay does not exceed 90 days within a 180-day period. Your authorization is valid for up to 3 years, or until your passport expires, whichever happens first.

Do I need to list all the countries I will visit?

Toggle faqs

No. You only need to indicate your first country of entry. After that, you can travel freely within the Schengen Area, and to any other participating country.

Can I use ETIAS to travel to Ireland?

Toggle faqs

No. Ireland is not part of the ETIAS programme and has its own entry requirements. Check the rules for entry for your nationality and apply for a visa in advance if needed.

Can I use ETIAS to visit the United Kingdom?

Toggle faqs

No. The United Kingdom is not covered by ETIAS. The UK has its own rules on visas and travel authorizations. If you want to visit England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you need to get the right permit.

Do I need ETIAS for a layover in Europe?

Toggle faqs

If you remain in the international transit area, you do not need ETIAS. If you leave the transit zone, ETIAS or a visa will be required, even if you only plan to stay for a short period.

Is ETIAS required to travel to Cyprus?

Toggle faqs

Yes. Cyprus requires ETIAS for visa-exempt travelers, even though it is still in the process of joining Schengen.

Do I need ETIAS to visit Andorra or Monaco?

Toggle faqs

Yes. To reach Andorra or Monaco, you must enter through France or Spain, which require ETIAS. Make sure you meet the requirements for all the countries you’ll pass through on your journey.
